what this newsgroup

What is This Newsgroup About?

Well, folks, I came to this newsgroup thinking I could both help others and get some help as well. I've been testing Windows Vista since the end of July 2005, and have downloaded and installed every build as it came out.
At this point, it doesn't look like that's gonna happen, simply because we're all too busy arguing with Kevin John Panzke. He seems to have taken control of this newsgroup, and made it his own. There's not real information being shared at all, so I have a couple of choices . . .
I can stick around and see what happens, or I can just bail right now, and forget about this newsgroup as being useful to anyone but Kevin John Panzke and his agenda.
What I think I'll do is killfile Kevin John Panzke, and stick around for awhile to see if anyone else is more interested in the exchange of information, rather than arguing with Kevin John Panzke.
I've only covered the surface of Windows Vista, and there are those here who know a lot more than I do, and have information, etc. to offer.
Let's start a dialogue about Vista, and forget about petty jerks who only want attention. Let the information begin to flow!
-- Nancy Ward Beta Butterfly MSN Messenger MVP

Nancy:
I agree with you fully. This isn't the only newsgroup to be plagued by him. You missed the havoc he created complaining about not being accepted into the Vista beta.
I'm waiting for the CPP release of Vista to test the x64 version and have been monitoring this group for pitfalls and to know what I need to enhance the use of Vista. I've made a few replies on x64 issues that will also have an effect on Vista x64. Keep up your good work in trying to make the Vista experience better for all.

Hi Nancy,
I fully agree with you, it saddens me to see the state of .general ng for Windows Vista so far, especially this early. The problem is some of us have become consumed with correcting Kevin Panzke to the point we don't see that we are becoming more a part of the problem than the solution. I think it was Mike Williams who told me to stop feeding him, and I think I have done just that, I do occasionally reply to some of Kevin's post, but I am not like some persons in here who make it an occupation.
Just like you, I am learning about Vista too, and being able to learn about it this early during its development is an opportunity I am thankful for. I also see it as an opportunity for us all to share our experiences from using Vista so far. Last night, I was thinking, maybe I should help start some topic focus on technologies in Windows Vista so we can learn about some of the great stuff thats coming and discuss it as we move forward to BETA 2 and on to RTM. -- -- Andre Windows Connected | http://www.windowsconnected.com Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta

I also agree with Andre - however I've blocked all his posts now so I'm free from it. It's difficult at first to understand why some people are saying certain things because I can't see his posts, but I certainly recommend doing that - blocking posts.

I was one of the 1st ones to put him on my kill file a couple of months ago. I did remove him from there after I started seeing replies to his posts that I did not see. I have now tried to talk some sense to him but it is to no avail. I found out that he is a young boy in his pre-teens and there is no use to talk to him.
I am now going to start to ignore his posts and we should all do this either by kill file or our own self control. Adding fuel to the fire does not help. As soon as he will realize that he will be talking to himself the sooner he will stop his child like nonsense

With OE, it's quite simple :
Highlight a message from the individual you want to killfile, click the "Message" menu, and select "Block Sender" from the dropdown.
Accept the confirmation and select "Yes" if you want to delete all his messages from the ng.
Poof! No more newsgroup messages from that individual.

Well Nancy, It just happens that Zach and Andre have pretty much answered all of my Vista related questions about hardware configs for Aeroglass; And based partly on their reccomendations; I have subsequently bought a Vista ready laptop. So until the public Beta is released, I'm sorta out of questions for the time being. But when I do get to play with Vista- I'll have alot of questions!!!! In the meantime-I'll be content to read what you all have to say about it. Thanks,

Yeah, Zack and Andre are very good. They answer a lot of questions for us. However, my motive isn't to make myself look good, but to help to head the newsgroup back to what it was designed for in the first place.
There's a lot of good information to be had, and if the newsgroup gets back on track, there will be more questions than Zack and Andre can handle. Maybe I'll know the answer to some of the questions and can help. More importantly, by reading this newsgroup, I can learn a whole lot more than I know now.

Nancy, I hope I didn't sound condescending or rude- I do appreciate what you are doing; I just don't have any questions right now-Really- When I am lucky enough to see Vista and have a go at it hands on-then I'll probably be asking alot. Alot!! So you'll be seeing my posts more when I get the opportunity to test run it myself.

You are right Nancy, its not about looking good or trying to have the most post here, its being a part of the community, sharing that passion and at the same time benefiting from the communities experiences and knowledge of Windows Vista. I am enthusiastic about Windows Vista, its been in development for so long now, being able to test it after so many delays and being able to share my knowledge and experiences since beta 1 is why I am here.
I know I will never be able to answer everybody's questions and I know thats not the right way to do things. I do avoid questions I can't answer, just sharing what I know and helping where I think I can.
